The Rundfunkbeitrag (currently €18.36 per household per month) is normally due from every household. But if you receive certain social benefits — Bürgergeld, BAföG, Grundsicherung and others — or live with a qualifying disability, you can apply to be exempted or to pay a reduced rate. The exemption is not automatic; you apply with proof of the qualifying benefit. This page explains the exemption; it does not assess your individual case.
You may be eligible if
- You receive a qualifying benefit such as Bürgergeld, BAföG or Grundsicherung.
- Or you hold a relevant disability mark (RF) on your Schwerbehindertenausweis.
- You apply with proof — it is not granted automatically.
