About this benefit
Kinderzuschlag is for families who earn enough to cover their own needs but not enough to fully provide for their children. It is paid on top of Kindergeld by the Familienkasse and, where it applies, can also unlock reductions like free childcare and the education package (Bildung und Teilhabe). Whether you qualify depends on household income and housing costs. This page explains the benefit; it does not assess your individual entitlement.
You may be eligible if
- You receive Kindergeld for a child who lives in your household.
- You have earned income, but household income and rent leave a shortfall for the children.
- You are not already receiving Bürgergeld.
