BAföG supports people in education whose own and whose family's income is not enough to cover living and study costs. For higher-education students it is paid half as a grant and half as an interest-free loan, with a capped total repayment. Whether and how much you receive depends on your income, your parents' income, your living situation and your programme. EU citizens and many residents with the right status can qualify. This page explains the benefit; it does not assess your individual entitlement.
You may be eligible if
- You are enrolled in eligible study or vocational training.
- Your and (usually) your parents' income are below the BAföG thresholds.
- You meet the nationality / residence conditions.
